Presidents And Their Projects

With the birth of Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Airport on 16 October 1996, Mrs. Prabha Mathur became the first President of the club with 39 Members. It was in this year that saw the release of the 1st News Letter of the club “AIR VIEWS” which continues till date.

• Diwali Mela & Baldin celebrations with 130 children of Utkarsh Mandal & Disha Karna Badhir
• Organized Drawing & painting competition and award winning entries were used by club as greeting cards to raise funds.
• First Charter Night was celebrated on 21st April, where the club got its own charter number

• Family Planning on 13th Dec 1997 where 31 ladies underwent laparoscopic surgery by PV Mehta at Vasai.
• Cancer checkup at Industrial Home for Blind Women
• 12 Needle crushers and 6 Aqua guards donated in 4 suburban Hospitals.
• 50th Independence day celebrated with unique project. Essay competition for mothers and mothers in -law of Inner Wheel members at district level on “Kutch Yadein “where more than 80 entries were received.

• 6-day handwriting improvement workshops in 6 schools

Year 2002-2003 President Dr. Surekha Dhurandhar

• Gave live demonstration to train villagers and school children of Ganeshpuri distinguishing and handling of poisonous snakes to eradicate myths about snakes and understand their role as “friends for Farmers”.
• Organized Interschool talent contest for dance and music for special children where more than 100children from various schools across Mumbai participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

Year 2003-2004 President Dr. Gargee Vaidya

• Adopted an orphanage “Vivekananda Shobha Jeevan Jyoti Kendra” with 20-25 orphan or single parent girls and donated new furniture, utensils, grocery etc.
• Workshops on Yoga, Fabric painting, Aarti thali decoration, personality development etc. were held once a month for special children of Udaan school.
• Organized a thyroid and medical checkup camp for rickshaw drivers and their families. Medical advice and treatment to the patients were also sponsored.

Year 2004-2005 President Rennu Gupta

• Inner Wheel Weeks were held at one institution continuously for 3-5 days with special finales benefiting more than 2000 children with vocational and educational workshops, quizzes, shloka recitation, street plays etc. These included, Inner Wheel Week for Special children, Inner Wheel Bharat Rangeen Youth Week, Inner Wheel Azmaish Week for NSS Girls.
• Food for Learning where for 4 months daily 35 street children were lured with meals to take extra tuitions after school hours at Bansidhar Aggarwal Model High school. Daily Wheat chapattis were provided for 6 leprosy patients and boiled eggs for 25 TB patients.
• Surgery/ Hospitalization Sponsorship up to 6-10 days for 26 babies for Cleft Lip Surgery, 1 baby for heart valve change operation, 1 baby for Pneumonia treatment and another baby suffering from heart disease.
• Happy 100s was introduced in the club General Body Meetings which is still a salient feature where members share their joys on anniversaries, birthdays, marriage, child birth or happiness in general with the society by giving a token amount for any worthy cause.

Year 2005-2006 President Tehmina Khandwala

• Kiran Ray of Hope Project for Street Children: To create, build and help develop services for the disadvantaged street children and also rehabilitated orphans, handicapped and medically ailing street children by providing furnished quarters, clothes and ration for 6 months.
• Organized a national level torch run and special Olympic Swimming Championship for mentally challenged children. This torch was lit by the President of India and was brought from Nagpur. Olympic gold medalist Anand Menezes lit the special torch and was carried by 300 special children from Citi Mall Andheri to Goregaon Sports complex, which was the venue of the Olympic event.
• Brick Oven Project was a very meaningful project which costed 1lakh rupees and aimed at creating awareness amongst villagers for their sustenance. Bricks were sold to villages to build toilet blocks and also helps the environment. 40 villages benefited from this project.

Year 2008-2009 President Daksha Patel

• 50000 copies of the book “Know Your Kidney” in 4 different languages were compiled and distributed free of cost to all clubs of District 314 and to NGOs in India and Abroad.
• A special cover with cancellations Stamp was released
• To mark the occasion of woman’s day, Woman’s Achiever Awards were introduced to acknowledge dedication and selfless work of selected Women of the society. The club till date celebrates Woman’s day as an important event.

Year 2009-2010 President Pallavi Choksi

• Maitreiyi, IWCBA’s flagship event and biggest fund raiser was founded on 5th October 2009 by then current president Pallavi Choksi. This is a platform to showcase our club member’s creativity and also to encourage NGO’s to display and sell their handicrafts. This is an ongoing project and the funds raised by Maitreiyi are used for various projects like making toilet blocks, happy schools, donating computers etc.
• Donated an Ambulance to a rural hospital at Tara, Panvel.

Year 2010-2011 President Daksha Pandit

• 25 children from remand home at Bhivandi were rehabilitated with the help of Tata Institute of Social Science with the aim to make them independent. This changed lives of many children.

Year 2011-2012 President Chetna Shah

• “Together we can help Cancer Patients” was an endeavor that involved relief for cancer patients. Old newspapers were collected from relatives, neighbors and friends to generate funds for the treatment of Cancer Patients through Jeevan Jyot Cancer Relief & Care Trust.
• Khelangan, an outdoor gymnasium was constructed at Dosibai Jeejeebhoy Prathamik Shala at Aarey Road and playground equipment was procured to develop motor skills of children.
• 35 cataract surgeries worth Rs 51000 were carried out at Yusuf Mehrauli Centre Panvel Airviews

• Donated a classroom at Safdaria High School in Hyderabad
• Contributed for the construction of a Volleyball ground and distributed sports equipment at Yusuf Mehrauli Centre.

• Donated playground from recycled material for Adivasi school at Wada
• Held a Mega eye checkup camp at Gazdarbund slums followed by 100 sponsored cataract surgeries.
• Donated a CCTV, 2 Wheel Chairs and 4 Magnifying glasses at Muskan foundation for multiple and visually impaired children.

Year 2014-2015 President Himadri Lathia

• A Thalassemia center at Vile Parle West was constructed offering high quality medical help at economical prices. 15 machines were donated
• Constructed an all-weather shed at Axis Life Chembur. This is a home away from home for children suffering from cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy and related treatments.
• Donated 550 Puma floaters amongst underprivileged children in the city, bringing a smile on their faces.

Year 2015-20016 President Suchitra Nayak

• Started Orientation for the incoming office bearers.
• Organised first couples trip.
• IWCBA’s first rural school was adopted at Savroli where we donated E-Learning kit, built a classroom wall, toilet block for girls and boys, made a playground and gave clean drinking water to the school, thus making it a “Happy School”
• Opened a library at Nityanand School at Andheri which was beneficial to 370 children.

Year 2016-2017 President Dr Priti Doshi

• Constructed a Happy village at Savroli, Palghar District benefitting more than 450 Adivasi’s by giving them a Balwadi with clean toilets and activity room, 14 Solar Lamps, more than 90 smokeless challahs.
• Created a Happy School at Sagave benefitting more than 350 students with toilets, Borewell, Computer room, fencing, gate, E learning kits, playground equipment etc.
• Celebrated literacy week by Desk Art Installation at carter road Bandra festival.
• Cooking Skill Development by holding Master Chef classes for housemaids and other girls. This helped them to take up jobs as cooks and earn their living. A recipe book “Kitchen Queen “was also published after completion of classes which compiled all the recopies.
• First of its kind senior citizen’s entertainment programs were organized at Manav Seva Sangh and Choksi Foundation hall at nanavati School respectively, where approximately 50 senior citizens participated.

Year 2017-2018 President Malti Sahetya

• A mega medical camp was organized at Sane Guruji School where 8 doctors examined over 750 students for ENT, Eye, Bone Density, de worming and other health issues.
• Completed 2 happy schools:
At Bhoipada, where 3 classrooms were painted and repaired and 2 new toilet blocks were made.
At Raipada 2 toilet blocks were constructed ,2 classrooms were made along with a water station A cupboard with toys and books were given to the school.
• Christmas celebrations at St Borges Home for Cancer patients was a heart touching project which brought smile on more than 50 cancer children’s faces.

Year 2018-2019 President Nayana Dhanki

• Refurbishing and up gradation of Dialysis Ward with 10 new recliner chairs at BSES Global Hospital was done for Rs. 25,50,000/-.
• Four comprehensive Infant care Baby Warmers & Portable X Ray machine donated at Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Kharghar.
• Four Happy Schools inaugurated at the hands of DC Vidhya in rural area Palghar and Safale where construction of toilets, stage, hand wash station, RO plant, staff room, library, fencing, gate, repairing the class rooms with E learning kit were carried out.
• For funding the accounts of martyred solders who lost their life while on duty, Dist. ISO project Rs. 17,32,502/- was transferred which was the highest in the District.
• Started collecting Ek Mutthi Anaj at every GBM which was donated to Orphanage and Vruddhashram. Total 700 Kg grain donated during the year.
• Proud moment for the Club-Got media coverage in 10 news papers for project of Dialysis Ward at BSES Hospital, Maitreiyi exhibition & Women Achievers Award function.

• INNERVISION - We gave training to 12 visually impaired people from underprivileged background to perform in orchestra to earn their livelihood . The band is given the name INNERVISION
• INNERWHEEL GARDEN - A small step to reduce global warming, made a garden at Palghar with rainwater harvesting, gym for senior citizens, play equipment for children and jogging track.
• Four Inner Wheel schools in Manor n Maswan.
• Organised Mock fire drill, Disaster management training, CPR training , Museum on Wheels in different schools

• Remarkable medical projects at Tata Memorable, Cooper , Kokilaben Ambani, Sion, M.S. Dhawale, B.K. Global hospital. Renovated and upgraded YMC Hospital at – Tara.

• Donated Hemodynamic machines, smart OPD’s and Oxygen Concentrator under Dist. Urban Medical Projects at Tata Hospital.
• Supported differently abled children at REACH, Mariposa Foundation and Society of Rehabilitation for Crippled Children.
• Our Flagship project: Constructed old age home “Samajik Vikas Kendra” at Karjat. • Education: Refurbished two class rooms and dining hall at YMC school, fees for the students of Nanavati College, Sane Guruji and Nallasopara orphanage.
• Caring for Women & Girls: Did worthy projects for underprivileged women and girls. Donated Wello Water Wheels.

Year 2021-2022 President Namita Marwah
• Renovation and upgradation of the historic Juhu Birla Garden is the mega Silver Jubilee Project of the year.
• Supported Jeevan Anand Sanstha by renovating Samarth Ashram, an old age home and a home for homeless in Virar.
• Renovated and upgraded a happy Zila Parishad School at Amgaon District Wada. A Computer lab and library is added to give the school a complete face lift.
• First of its kind unique project of Garden for Especially abled Children in Juhu. We added special play equipment’s in this garden to give special children their own space.
• Organized a Joint Mega Medical Camp with IWC Panvel Industrial Town district 313 at Yusuf Mehrally Hospital Panvel benefitting 225 Adivasis followed by 25 cataract surgeries which were sponsored by our club.
• Conducted woman empowerment project by donating 51sewing machines to deserving women to make them self-reliant.
• “Project Hope”, we provided nutrition supplements to 150 pregnant ladies of Topiwala Nursing Home
• Literacy and Wellness team of our club reached out to more than 500 children with weekly online and offline education counselling , career counselling and spoken English workshops for students at schools and collages supported by our club.
• We joined hands with Mr. Mayank Gandhi’s Global Parli increase annual income of a farmer’s family up to 1 lakh per acre by planting 4450 banana saplings on his agricultural land.
• To support the district, we contributed to the Urban Medical Project at Wadia Hospital, Rural Project Amrut Manthan, Eco Tourism and Environment Project , Woman Empowerment Project , Sparsh and Zone 2 joint Project, renovation of Zila Parishad School Avakalli at Mahableshwar.
• We raised the bar for our annual fund raiser Maitreiyi by adding fashion show, educational talks and complimentary eco-friendly jute bags with our club’s name to this mega fund raiser.
• On 25th birthday of the club , we had grand Silver Jubilee Celebrations which was combined with the inauguration of Silver Jubilee Project and was the highlight of the year.
• Overall, a very eventful year with a perfect blend of theme fellowships at every GBM, 2 trips, 2 picnics, and record breaking 301 projects.

Year 2022-2023 President Neelima Mashru
• ONE OF A KIND PROJECT The Gram Panchayat Nandore Devkhop school is undergoing some great improvements, including the construction of six new classrooms, renovation of two classrooms, Anganwadi, toilets, and a new fence for the school perimeter. This project will have a positive impact on around 300 children.
• Launch of the Paediatric Rehabilitation and Holistic Therapeutic Intervention Centre under the "We Care" initiated by IWC Bombay Airport. This new centre is aimed at providing much-needed support to children in need of rehabilitation and therapeutic care.
• Donated Out Reach Vehicle at Sri Satya Sanjeevani centre for health care and training in pediatric cardiac skills at kharghar for needy beneficiaries like pregnant mothers and children in difficult to access area
• Donated new Dental chair to the YMC Tara Hospital to support under privileged individuals in need of dental care this will make a positive impact on the community’s health and well being
• We donated 127 under privileged malnourished women & malnourished children providing support in implementing ANTINATEL PROGRAM and donated 150 sarees at Sri Sathaya Sai Sanjeevani centres for child health Care
• Donated & Installation of latest technology, the Automatic Thermal Massage Bed, at the Anand Vrudhashram. Palghar This bed is specifically designed to provide various therapies for senior citizens, catering to their unique needs and requirements.
• Charitable contribution to the Brahma Kumari Global Hospital and Research Centre located in Andheri West. Our donation included one portable ECG machine and two body warmer machines, which we hope will assist in providing better healthcare services to those in need.
• Our Branding project - a 21ft Christmas tree made from 10,000 recycled plastic bottles. By taking this initiative, we aim to not only spread the festive cheer but also raise awareness about the importance of recycling and upcycling plastic bottles to help save our environment. Let's pledge to make a positive impact and work towards a sustainable future.
• 11 benches have been generously donated to Bhabha hospital for the comfort of patients and their loved ones. This thoughtful act will surely make a positive impact on the hospital community.
• Donated 2 braillers to the Helen Keller Institute, an NGO providing education, training, and rehabilitation to individuals with deaf-blindness and multiple disabilities.
• Donated 3 infant warmers & 3GE Lullaby for Neonatal unit at Sion Hospital
• We enhanced our annual fundraiser, Maitreiyi 2022-23, by organizing 2 maitreiyi events and incorporating the Maitreiyi Flea. This efforts help us raise the bar for our fundraising initiative
• Throughout the year, we had a bustling and exciting time, experiencing themed fellowships at every GBM, going on two international trips, enjoying an overnight picnic, and achieving remarkable milestones in various areas of contribution
